Rep. Henry Cuellar Indicted on Bribery, Money Laundering Charges Linked to Azerbaijan, Banco Azteca
May 6, 2024, 02:52 PM
Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas, along with his wife, has been indicted by the Department of Justice on charges of conspiracy, bribery, and money laundering. The indictment, unsealed Friday, alleges that Cuellar accepted bribes from Azerbaijan and Banco Azteca in Mexico City in exchange for influencing U.S. legislation and delivering a pro-Azerbaijan speech in the House. Despite the charges, Cuellar has vowed to continue his campaign for an 11th term. The case also includes allegations that Cuellar attempted to block funding for land mine clearance in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
