G7 Ministers Discuss Compliance with ICC Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant over Gaza War Crimes
Nov 26, 2024, 01:41 AM
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes committed in Gaza. This decision has led to significant international reactions. France has backed the ICC's decision, with Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stating that France will adhere to international law regarding the arrest warrants. The Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers, meeting in Italy, have expressed their intention to comply with their respective international obligations concerning the ICC's arrest warrants. The G7 is also seeking a unified position on the matter, with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani noting that the group is working on a common stance. However, the United States, not recognizing the ICC's jurisdiction, has not committed to complying with the arrest warrants. Additionally, UN experts have urged full compliance with the ICC's decisions.
