The service, along with OpenAI's APIs and the video generator Sora, began showing high error rates around 2 p.m. ET, as reported by Downdetector with over 15,000 reports. Users reported issues accessing the website and mobile application, with some unable to send queries or receiving error messages. The outage was attributed to problems with an upstream provider, according to OpenAI. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has not provided a timeline for when the service might be restored.
