US Pledges $500 Million at Ramstein, Commits to Ukraine's Defense Through 2027
Jan 9, 2025, 11:09 AM
The United States and its allies have committed to supporting Ukraine's military needs through 2027, as announced at the 25th Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The meeting, which was the last for outgoing U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, focused on outlining Ukraine's defense capabilities across eight key areas: air force, armor, artillery, de-mining, drones, integrated air and missile defense, information technology, and maritime security. The U.S. pledged an additional $500 million in military aid, including missiles for air defense, artillery ammunition, and equipment for Ukraine's F-16 fighter jets. The commitment extends beyond the immediate conflict, aiming to build a credible deterrent force for Ukraine against future Russian aggression. The meeting also saw participation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who urged continued international support, emphasizing the importance of not dropping the ball on Ukraine's defense coalitions. The group, consisting of about 50 nations, has collectively provided over $126 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
