VisitApple to Open iPhone NFC Chip Internationally to Third-Party Developers with iOS 18.1, Fees Apply

Apple has announced that it will open the iPhone's NFC chip to third-party developers internationally with the release of iOS 18.1. This update will allow developers to utilize the NFC chip for contactless transactions using the Secure Element, which is separate from Apple Pay and Wallet. Developers will be able to offer payments, car keys, transit options, and IDs through their own apps. However, Apple has stated that there will be associated fees for developers who wish to use this feature, and they must agree to commercial terms with Apple.
