Denmark Commits $137M to Ukrainian Defense on 1,000th Day of Invasion
Nov 19, 2024, 04:10 PM
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen made a surprise visit to Kyiv on November 19, coinciding with the 1,000th day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During her visit, she announced that Denmark will provide over $137 million for the Ukrainian defense industry. This funding is part of a broader commitment to support Ukraine, with Denmark planning to provide €8 billion in aid from the beginning of the invasion until 2028. President Volodymyr Zelensky and Frederiksen met with Ukrainian manufacturers of long-range drones and soldiers using them, reviewing drones purchased with Denmark's support. Additionally, Denmark has already delivered six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with 13 more expected to be handed over later. The aid package also includes direct investments into Ukraine's defense industry, with Denmark allocating €130 million specifically for this purpose. Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine has already produced over 2.5 million mortar rounds and artillery shells this year, attracting more than 40 foreign defense companies and over 600 domestic companies to work in Ukraine. The funding follows the Danish model, where funds are allocated for contracts already made by a Ukrainian company.
