Israeli Forces Raid Al Jazeera Office in Occupied West Bank, Order 45-Day Closure
Sep 22, 2024, 01:05 AM
Israeli forces have stormed the Al Jazeera office in Ramallah, located in the occupied West Bank, and ordered its closure for 45 days. The raid occurred around 3:20 a.m. local time, with heavily armed soldiers in full military gear entering the building, delivering a military order, and giving staff 10 minutes to evacuate. The raid was broadcast live, and Al Jazeera staff reported that the soldiers attempted to break down the iron door of the building. Additionally, Israeli soldiers tore down posters of Shireen Abu Aqleh, a journalist killed in 2022. The closure order follows the shutdown of Al Jazeera's East Jerusalem office in May. Soldiers fired live ammunition in the vicinity, confiscated equipment, and imposed a 10-hour deadline for evacuation.
