Israeli Forces Raid Al Jazeera Office in Ramallah, West Bank, at 3:20 a.m., Order 45-Day Closure
Sep 22, 2024, 01:26 AM
Israeli forces raided the Al Jazeera office in Ramallah, located in the occupied West Bank, early Sunday morning. The heavily armed, masked soldiers delivered a military order to close the office for 45 days and demanded that all staff evacuate within 10 minutes. The raid occurred around 3:20 a.m. local time and was broadcast live by Al Jazeera. During the raid, Israeli soldiers confiscated equipment, fired live ammunition and teargas in the vicinity, and tore down posters of slain journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. The closure order, handed to Al Jazeera's bureau chief Walid al-Omari, cited a court ruling but did not specify a reason for the decision. This incident follows a previous shutdown of Al Jazeera's East Jerusalem office in May.
