IDF Discovers 3-Meter-High Smuggling Tunnel in Rafah on Egypt-Gaza Border
Aug 4, 2024, 12:28 PM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have discovered a massive 3-meter-high smuggling tunnel on the Egypt-Gaza border. The tunnel, which is large enough to accommodate vehicles, was found beneath a mosque in Rafah and runs under the Philadelphi Corridor into Egypt. The IDF has confirmed plans to destroy the tunnel. Egypt has denied knowledge of the tunnel, despite accusations that it was aware of and possibly complicit in the smuggling of weapons and rockets. The discovery follows a series of recent rocket attacks on Israel from the southern Gaza Strip, prompting the Israeli military to call for evacuations in certain neighborhoods of Khan Younis.
