Former Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra Arrested by ED on July 12 in Valmiki Corporation Scam
Jul 18, 2024, 04:26 AM
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested B. Nagendra, the former Minister of Scheduled Tribal Welfare and Youth & Sports of the Karnataka government, on July 12, 2024, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The arrest is related to the Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki ST Development Corporation Limited scam, where Nagendra is accused of embezzling funds. The ED claims that the funds were misused for the Congress poll campaign and for purchasing liquor in neighboring states during the Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, Nagendra's wife, Manjula, has been detained for questioning. The investigation has uncovered at least 80 fake accounts set up by Nagendra. Incriminating documents were also found at the house of Basangouda Daddal. Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra has stated that new information is emerging daily since the ED took over the probe. The Congress government in Karnataka has accused the BJP of misusing central agencies to target the opposition.
