Bank of England Raises Over £914,127 ($1.17 Million) in King Charles Banknote Auction
Aug 13, 2024, 11:37 AM
The Bank of England successfully raised over £914,127 ($1.17 million) through charity auctions of new banknotes featuring King Charles III. These banknotes, which were among the first to feature the King, entered circulation in June. Collectors showed a strong interest, with some notes selling for up to 11 times their face value. The auctions included £5, £10, £20, and £50 notes, with one sheet of £50 notes selling for £26,000, setting a record for the highest lot sold in a Bank of England banknote auction. Collectors were particularly interested in notes with low serial numbers. The proceeds from the auction will benefit several charities.
