VisitTurkey's Exports Rise 2.5% to Record $262B in 2024, Erdoğan Announces
Jan 3, 2025, 12:23 PM
Turkey's exports reached a record high of $262 billion in 2024, marking a 2.5% increase from the previous year, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced at the '2024 Export Figures Announcement Program' in Istanbul. Monthly exports also set a new record in December, rising 2.2% to $23 billion. The top five exporting provinces were Istanbul, Kocaeli, Izmir, Bursa, and Tekirdağ. The rise in exports comes despite a 'painful year' characterized by regional uncertainties and global economic challenges. High-tech product exports surged by 19% to $8.8 billion, and defense and aerospace industry exports hit a new record of $7.154 billion, a 29% increase that surpassed the 2024 target of $6.5 billion. Erdoğan projected that Turkey's per capita income, which was $13,243 in 2023, is expected to exceed $15,000 in 2024 and surpass $17,000 in 2025, moving the country towards joining high-income nations. He believes that total goods and services exports will exceed $390 billion in 2025. The economy grew by 2.1% in the third quarter of 2024, marking 17 consecutive quarters of growth.
