Venezuelan Opposition Claims Election Win with 67%, Calls for Protests
Aug 11, 2024, 07:07 PM
In Venezuela, tensions have escalated following the recent presidential election, with the opposition claiming victory over President Nicolás Maduro. The opposition alleges that Maduro's regime is marking the homes of dissenters with an 'X' to intimidate and target them. Despite the opposition's efforts to prove their electoral win through a large-scale data-gathering operation, Venezuela's top court has ruled that they failed to submit sufficient proof in the election dispute. The opposition claims that the real election results show their candidate, González, winning with 67% of the votes compared to Maduro's 30%, contrary to the claimed results of Maduro 52%, González 42% and Maduro 51%, González 44%. In response to these developments, the Venezuelan opposition, led by Maria Machado, has called for worldwide protests on August 17 to contest the election results and bring attention to the regime's alleged campaign of terror.
