A Syrian man residing in Sweden, who had recently arrived in Germany, attacked several people with a knife on a street in Berlin's Charlottenburg district on December 31, injuring two people who were hospitalized with serious injuries. The suspect, whose name has not been released, allegedly stole the knife from a Rewe supermarket before randomly attacking passersby. He was apprehended by police after being subdued by bystanders. Authorities reported that initial findings indicate the suspect may show signs of mental illness, and there is no indication of a terrorist motive at this time. Police stated the suspect may be charged with attempted murder. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
