Inter Miami's Luis Suárez Assists in Preventing Suicide in Uruguay's Ciudad de la Costa
Jan 5, 2025, 07:52 PM
Luis Suárez, the Uruguayan soccer star currently playing for Inter Miami, played a crucial role in preventing a suicide in Ciudad de la Costa, Uruguay. The incident occurred over a period of nearly 20 hours, starting on the night of Friday and concluding on Saturday afternoon. A 49-year-old man had climbed a six-meter-high tree, threatening to take his own life if his partner did not appear. Suárez, who was vacationing in the area, approached the scene with his wife Sofía Balbi and engaged in dialogue with the man. Alongside members of a social psychology NGO, Suárez's empathetic approach helped persuade the man to come down from the tree after 18 hours of negotiation involving the Guardia Republicana and the Prefectura. The man, who was under domestic violence restraining orders, was subsequently handed over to the specialized domestic violence unit of the Ministry of the Interior for professional care and evaluation.
