NASA Confirms ISS Medical Emergency Audio Error Involving Commander Oleg Kononenko
Jun 13, 2024, 12:06 AM
The International Space Station (ISS) experienced a false alarm when emergency audio indicating a medical issue was mistakenly broadcast on NASA's main communication channel. The audio, aired at approximately 5:28 p.m. CDT from a simulation audio channel, suggested that Commander Oleg Kononenko was suffering from decompression sickness. However, NASA confirmed in a press release that the audio was from a simulation exercise and there was no actual emergency aboard the ISS. The station continues its operations as planned, including a scheduled EVA (extravehicular activity) tomorrow.
