NASA Confirms No Emergency After ISS Medical Emergency Simulation Broadcast
Jun 13, 2024, 12:13 AM
NASA confirmed that a medical emergency simulation on the International Space Station (ISS) was accidentally broadcast, causing widespread concern. The simulation, which involved audio suggesting a decompression event, hypobaric exposure, and a medical emergency for Commander Oleg Kononenko, was mistaken for a real incident. The audio was aired without context, leading to confusion and alarm on social media. There were references to a hospital in Spain during the simulation. NASA has since clarified that there was no actual emergency and that the ISS crew is safe. A press release from NASA confirmed the simulation, and normal operations, including a planned EVA, are continuing.
