Japan experienced its hottest summer on record for the second consecutive year, with the average temperature from June to August 2024 being 1.76 degrees Celsius higher than the standard value since 1898. This summer tied with last year’s for the highest level since records began in 1898. The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that numerous locations across the country recorded temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius. Globally, the summer of 2024 was the hottest ever recorded, surpassing the previous record set in 2023. The European Union's climate change monitoring service, Copernicus, indicated that this trend is likely to make 2024 the warmest year on record.
