Mayorkas Announces 40% Drop in Tucson Border Encounters to 2,400 Following Biden's Executive Action
Jun 26, 2024, 06:57 PM
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced a significant decrease in illegal border crossings following President Joe Biden’s recent executive action limiting asylum processing. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the 7-day average of Border Patrol encounters has dropped by more than 40% to 2,400 encounters per day. During a visit to Tucson, Arizona, on Wednesday, Mayorkas highlighted the effectiveness of Biden’s policies, stating that the administration is 'bringing order' to the southern border. He praised the swift implementation of the new policy and noted that the results are already evident, with a more than 45% drop in encounters in Tucson. Despite criticism, Mayorkas remains firm that the measures are working to enhance border security and reduce illegal crossings.
