Maharashtra Declares Indigenous Cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata', Announces Subsidy Scheme

The Maharashtra government has declared indigenous cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata', recognizing their significance since the Vedic period. This decision, announced in a government notification, was made during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted that indigenous cows are a boon for farmers. To support the rearing of these cows, the government has introduced a subsidy scheme of Rs 50 per day for Goshalas, which have been struggling financially.
