Trump Outpaces Biden in May Fundraising with $170 Million Surge After Conviction
Jun 21, 2024, 10:09 AM
In a significant fundraising surge, former President Donald Trump has outpaced President Joe Biden in campaign donations for the month of May. Financial disclosures revealed that Trump, along with the Republican National Committee and an allied super PAC, raised over $170 million, erasing Biden's previous cash advantage. This surge was largely fueled by a $50 million donation from a single donor and a substantial influx of contributions following Trump's May 30 conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. By the end of May, Trump's campaign had $116 million in the bank, more than double the amount from the previous month. Trump raised a record $141 million in May, including a massive donation from Billionaire Twins. Despite this, Biden's campaign still holds a roughly $100 million cash advantage from earlier in the year. The fundraising efforts highlight the intensifying financial battle as both candidates prepare for the upcoming November 5 election.
