Texas A&M Secures Largest Win Over Texas Since 1993, 80-60 in SEC Opener

The Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Texas Longhorns 80-60 in a dominating performance during their SEC basketball opener at Reed Arena. The game marked the Longhorns' first official SEC men's basketball game and the renewal of the Lone Star Showdown rivalry. Tied at halftime 37-37, the Aggies surged in the second half, outscoring Texas 43-23, including a 15-2 run to start the half. Texas A&M's dominance in the paint was a key factor, with a 48-16 scoring advantage inside and 24 points from free throws. Zhuric Phelps led the Aggies with 18 points, while Pharrel Payne contributed 15 points and five rebounds. Wade Taylor IV added 13 points to the Aggies' effort. The Aggies' defense held Texas to 25% shooting in the second half, including just 1-for-12 from three-point range. The victory, witnessed by a sellout crowd at Reed Arena, is Texas A&M's largest win over Texas since 1993 and their eighth consecutive win this season. Texas A&M improved to 12-2 overall and 1-0 in SEC play, while Texas, now 11-3, fell to 0-1 in the conference. Tramon Mark led the Longhorns with 14 points.
