OpenAI has introduced a five-level system to track its progress toward achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI). The levels are Chatbots, Reasoners, Agents, Innovators, and Organizations. Currently, OpenAI believes it is nearing Level 2, which is defined as AI that can solve basic problems at the level of a person with a PhD. This new classification system aims to clarify advancements and ensure safety in the development of AI. The system was revealed during an internal meeting where leadership also demonstrated a research project involving the GPT-4 model, showcasing improved reasoning capabilities. OpenAI refers to Level 2 as 'Reasoners'.
