17-Year-Old Mirra Andreeva Reaches First Grand Slam Quarterfinal at Roland Garros, Defeats Gracheva 7-5, 6-2
Jun 3, 2024, 03:33 PM
Mirra Andreeva, a 17-year-old tennis prodigy, has reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the 2024 Roland Garros. Andreeva defeated former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in a late-night match at 1AM, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, and advanced to the 3rd round. She then went on to beat Varvara Gracheva 7-5, 6-2 in the Round of 16. This victory makes Andreeva the second youngest player this century to reach the women's singles quarterfinals at Roland Garros, following Sesil Karatantcheva in 2005. Andreeva has now reached the Round of 16 at three different Grand Slams. She will face Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, a rematch from their encounter in the Madrid QFs.
