Metaplanet Targets 10,000 BTC in 2025 Amid 2,629% Stock Surge
Jan 6, 2025, 01:00 AM
Japan-based investment firm Metaplanet has announced plans to increase its Bitcoin holdings by 470% in 2025, aiming to reach a total of 10,000 BTC by the end of the year. The company, led by CEO Simon Gerovich, currently holds 1,762 Bitcoins, valued at approximately $173.6 million as of December 2024. Metaplanet's strategy involves leveraging capital market tools such as loans, equity, and bond issuances, including a ¥9.5 billion ($60.3 million) bond sale in December 2024. The firm has rapidly expanded its Bitcoin treasury since April 2024, completing 19 purchases with an average acquisition price of $75,000 per Bitcoin. Its largest single acquisition was 620 BTC for $60 million in December. The BTC yield rose from 42% to 310% in the last quarter of the year, while the company's stock surged by 2,629% in 2024. Analysts suggest that the company's expansion aligns with forecasts of potential government Bitcoin adoption and increased institutional investment in 2025. Metaplanet's approach has drawn comparisons to MicroStrategy's Bitcoin acquisition strategy.
