Metaplanet Targets 10,000 BTC in 2025, Up from 1,762
Jan 6, 2025, 02:43 AM
Japan-based investment firm Metaplanet has announced plans to increase its Bitcoin holdings by 470% in 2025, aiming to reach 10,000 BTC. The company, led by CEO Simon Gerovich, currently holds 1,762 BTC worth approximately $173.6 million. Metaplanet intends to utilize various capital market tools, including loans, equity, and bonds, to achieve this target. In 2024, the firm significantly expanded its Bitcoin treasury, growing from 225 BTC in July to 1,762 BTC by December, with a 2,629% surge in its stock price. Its most recent acquisition in December involved purchasing 620 BTC for $60 million at an average price of $96,000 per Bitcoin. This was supported by a ¥9.5 billion bond issuance. Metaplanet's strategy, which began in April 2024, mirrors that of MicroStrategy, leveraging systematic accumulation and institutional approaches. The firm's BTC yield increased to 310% in Q4 2024, showcasing its rapid acquisition pace. Metaplanet has positioned itself as Asia's largest corporate Bitcoin holder and the 15th largest globally. Analysts suggest that anticipated government adoption and increased institutional investment in 2025 could further bolster Bitcoin's appeal.
