Biden and First Lady to Visit New Orleans Monday After ISIS-Inspired Attack Kills 15 on Bourbon Street
Jan 3, 2025, 03:33 PM
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are scheduled to visit New Orleans on Monday, following a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street on New Year's Day that resulted in at least 15 deaths and 35 injuries. The White House announced that the purpose of their visit is to grieve with the families and community members affected by the tragedy and to meet with local officials. The attack was carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran from Texas, who drove a truck into a crowd celebrating the New Year. Jabbar, who was inspired by ISIS and had an ISIS flag in his truck, was killed by police after a shootout. The FBI has confirmed that Jabbar acted alone and posted videos in support of the group before the attack. Additionally, two improvised explosive devices were found in the French Quarter, which were linked to Jabbar. President Biden has ordered an accelerated investigation into the attack and has committed federal resources to support the investigation and recovery efforts in New Orleans.
