Ethereum Foundation Email Server Hacked, No Cryptocurrency Lost in Phishing Scam
Jul 3, 2024, 10:01 AM
The Ethereum Foundation experienced a significant security breach on June 23, when a hacker compromised its email server. The hacker sent phishing emails to 35,794 recipients, falsely claiming a collaboration with LidoDAO and promoting a fake staking scheme. Despite the breach, the Foundation's investigation concluded that no victims lost cryptocurrency from the attack. The security incident was initially revealed by Tim Beiko and further updates were provided by the Foundation's operational security team. The phishing scam targeted Ethereum ($ETH) and Lido ($LDO) stakeholders.
