Israel's Shin Bet Foils Hezbollah Plot to Assassinate Former IDF Chief Aviv Kohavi
Sep 19, 2024, 06:43 AM
Israel's domestic security agency, Shin Bet, has thwarted an assassination plot by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah targeting former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff, Aviv Kohavi. The plot involved an explosive device of the Climagor type, equipped with a remote control system, camera, and mobile phone. In a separate incident, Israeli authorities arrested an Israeli businessman, Moti Maman, who was allegedly recruited by Iranian intelligence to assassinate key Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar. Maman, who had been living in Turkey, was smuggled into Iran twice for meetings with intelligence officers and received payment for his involvement.
