Albertsons Scraps $25 Billion Kroger Merger, Sues Over Failed Regulatory Approval
Dec 11, 2024, 02:14 PM
Albertsons has terminated its proposed $25 billion merger with Kroger after the US District Court in Oregon and the King County Superior Court for the State of Washington blocked the deal. The merger, announced last year, faced objections over antitrust concerns. Albertsons is now suing Kroger, alleging that the grocery chain failed to exercise 'best efforts' and take 'any and all actions' to secure regulatory approval and overcome government objections. The lawsuit claims that Kroger breached the contract, leading to the demise of the merger.
