OpenAI-Backed Figure Unveils Figure 02, Tested at BMW Factory

OpenAI-backed robotics company Figure has unveiled its latest humanoid robot, Figure 02, which is being described as the most advanced humanoid robot on the planet. The robot features several enhancements over its predecessor, Figure 01, including a 2.25 KWh battery, 16 degrees of freedom in its hands, six cameras, and onboard vision language models for speech-to-speech reasoning. Figure 02 is designed to work autonomously and has been tested in real-world environments, such as BMW's Spartanburg factory, where it performs tasks like handling and inserting sheet metal. The robot's capabilities are further enhanced by its integration with OpenAI models, allowing for natural language conversations and self-correcting behavior. Custom AI models are also used to optimize its performance. The release of Figure 02 marks a significant advancement in humanoid robotics, setting new standards for AI and mechanical engineering.
