UPS Driver Hospitalized After Heat-Induced Crash in McKinney, Texas on Friday
Aug 18, 2024, 07:15 PM
A UPS driver in North Texas was hospitalized after passing out from heat exhaustion and crashing into a group of trees in McKinney, Texas, on Friday. The incident, which was captured on video, highlights the dangers faced by delivery workers in extreme heat conditions. The driver has since been treated and released from the hospital. This incident is part of a broader issue affecting delivery workers, as most USPS delivery trucks lack air conditioning, and letter carriers are not provided with bottled water. In San Antonio, seven USPS workers have suffered from heat-related illnesses. According to Homer Hernandez, President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Alamo Branch 421, temperatures inside delivery trucks can reach as high as 132 degrees, even when outside temperatures are significantly lower.
