Simone Biles Honored as Sports Illustrated's 2024 Sportsperson of the Year for Olympic Success
Jan 2, 2025, 07:06 PM
Simone Biles has been named Sports Illustrated's 2024 Sportsperson of the Year, recognizing her outstanding achievements in gymnastics. The 27-year-old gymnast, who secured three gold medals and a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has become the most decorated gymnast in history with a total of 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals. Biles's performance in Paris included victories in the team all-around, individual all-around, and vault, along with a silver in the floor exercise. Her recognition by Sports Illustrated also acknowledges her advocacy for mental health issues in sports. Biles has expressed uncertainty about competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, citing her accomplishments and the personal sacrifices required to continue her athletic career, including starting a family and supporting her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens.
