Milwaukee to Recount 31,000 Early Ballots After Tabulator Issue, Delaying Results Until Wednesday
Nov 5, 2024, 11:00 PM
Milwaukee election officials are recounting approximately 31,000 early voting and mail-in absentee ballots after discovering that panels on 13 ballot tabulators at the city's central ballot processing location were not properly sealed due to human error. The issue was identified when an election observer noticed that the doors of the machines used for processing absentee ballots were not fully secured. As a precaution, officials are resetting the machines and retabulating all affected ballots, a process expected to delay the city's final election results by at least six hours, potentially pushing the reporting of results into Wednesday morning.
