UN Accuses Israel of 'Extermination' in Deliberate Destruction of Gaza's Healthcare; Israel Rejects Report
Oct 11, 2024, 06:52 AM
A United Nations inquiry reported that Israel has been implementing a deliberate policy to destroy Gaza's healthcare system during its military attacks, actions that constitute war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination. The report, released on Thursday, accuses Israel of deliberately killing, detaining, and torturing Palestinian medical staff, as well as restricting permits for medical evacuations from Gaza. It cites the detention of thousands of children and instances of rape and sexual violence, amounting to widespread abuse. Furthermore, Israel has blocked or delayed nearly 90% of coordinated aid efforts into Gaza in September, with seven medical missions to northern Gaza denied or impeded. Power outages and shortages of essential supplies have pushed nearly every hospital in northern Gaza, including Kamal Adwan Hospital and children's hospitals, out of service, creating catastrophic situations and putting over 40,000 lives at risk. Israel has rejected the UN probe's findings as 'outrageous'.
