UNGA Demands Gaza Ceasefire and Hostages Release, Backs UNRWA
Dec 11, 2024, 09:52 PM
The United Nations General Assembly has adopted two significant resolutions concerning the situation in Gaza. The first resolution, supported by 159 countries with 9 voting against and 11 abstaining, reaffirms support for the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and deplores the legislation adopted by the Israeli Knesset on October 28, 2024, which bans UNRWA's operations. The second resolution, with 158 votes in favor, 9 against, and 13 abstentions, demands an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the unconditional release of all hostages. The overwhelming support for these resolutions reflects a broad international consensus on the need for peace and humanitarian aid in the region.
