U.S. Provides $500 Million Military and $440 Million Economic Aid to Ukraine Ahead of Power Transition
Dec 13, 2024, 06:21 AM
The United States has announced a new $500 million military aid package for Ukraine, as confirmed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The package includes ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), 105 mm and 155 mm artillery shells, High-speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM), anti-drone ammunition to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (c-UAS), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs), High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), and protective equipment against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. This assistance is provided from existing U.S. military stockpiles under the presidential drawdown authority and aims to support Ukraine in its ongoing defense efforts at a critical time before the transition of power in the United States. Additionally, the U.S. will provide over $440 million in economic aid to Ukraine. Blinken stated that this support is essential as Ukraine continues to defend its territory.
