On Monday, members of the House and Senate will convene to officially certify Trump's victory in the election. The event has been designated as a 'special security event' by Mayor Muriel Bowser, a first in modern U.S. history for an electoral certification, aimed at preventing a repeat of the 2021 assault. Over 1,500 individuals have been charged in connection with the 2021 riot, with more than 1,000 sentenced, including 650 who received prison terms.
