Tropical Storm Alberto Forms in Gulf, First 2024 Named Storm to Impact Mexico and Texas

Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. Alberto is expected to make landfall in northern Mexico early Thursday, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and up to 4’ storm surge. The storm's impacts will be felt across northeastern Mexico and parts of the Texas coast, including areas as far north as Treasure Island, Texas. Significant flash flood risks are anticipated from Victoria to Brownsville and west to Laredo. The storm is the latest first Atlantic named storm since 2014, forming slightly ahead of the long-term average of June 20. Alberto is currently located just under 300 miles sse of Brownsville, Texas.
