Paris 2024 Olympic Flame Lit in Ancient Olympia on Tuesday Despite Weather Glitch
Apr 16, 2024, 09:49 AM
The Olympic flame for the Paris 2024 Games was successfully lit on Tuesday in Ancient Olympia, Greece, despite a minor weather glitch. The ceremony, held at the historic birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, featured a Greek actor playing a high priestess who used a parabolic mirror and the sun's rays to ignite the flame. IOC President Thomas Bach emphasized the Olympic values of peace and hope in his speech at the event. The flame will now undertake a 12,000 km journey, carried by over 10,000 torchbearers, concluding with a handover to Paris Games organizers in Athens on April 26.
