US Re-establishes $320M Gaza Aid Pier After $22M Repairs, UK Covers Part
Jun 7, 2024, 01:22 PM
The United States has re-established a temporary floating pier off the coast of Gaza after it was damaged by a storm shortly after becoming operational. The pier, which cost between $230 million and $320 million to build, required an additional $22 million for repairs. The U.S. Central Command confirmed that the pier is expected to resume operations on Friday. The Pentagon's revised budget includes the repair costs. The pier aims to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, though concerns have been raised about the high costs, including $20,730 per pound of food delivered, and efficiency of the project. The UK is covering part of the cost.
