The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. when a pickup truck drove into pedestrians celebrating the New Year. Witnesses reported that after the crash, the driver exited the vehicle and began firing a weapon, prompting an exchange of gunfire with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
