Alphabet’s Google has announced the construction of Umoja, the first subsea fiber optic cable to directly connect Africa with Australia. The cable will enhance digital connectivity between the two continents. The Umoja cable route will be anchored in Kenya and will pass through Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa before crossing the Indian Ocean to Australia.
