May 23, 2024, 04:39 PM
Google has announced the construction of Umoja, the first subsea fiber optic cable directly connecting Africa with Australia and Asia Pacific. The cable will enhance digital connectivity and support Africa's digital transformation. Starting in Kenya, the Umoja cable will pass through Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa before crossing the Indian Ocean to Australia. This initiative is part of Google's broader commitment to improving connectivity and supporting economic growth in the regions involved. Additionally, Google has expanded its cybersecurity collaboration with Kenya, and the Umoja cable will join the existing Equiano cable and Google Cloud region in Johannesburg.
