Israeli Raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia Leaves It Out of Service, WHO Concerned
Dec 28, 2024, 08:00 PM
Israeli forces conducted a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, resulting in the hospital being put out of service. The operation, which began on Friday, involved the evacuation of 15 critical patients, 50 caregivers, and 20 health workers to the Indonesian Hospital, which lacks necessary equipment and supplies. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the facility was left empty. The Israeli military claimed that the hospital was used as a Hamas command center and detained over 240 individuals, including the hospital's director, Hussam Abu Safiya, who was suspected of being a Hamas operative. The WHO expressed deep concern over the raid, stating that the systematic dismantling of Gaza's health system puts the lives of the remaining 75,000 Palestinians in the area at risk. The raid has left northern Gaza without any functioning healthcare centers, exacerbating an already dire crisis.
