Tatyana Tomashova Disqualified from 2012 Olympics 1500m Final, 10-Year Ban and Silver Medal Annulled
Nov 19, 2024, 03:35 PM
Tatyana Tomashova, a Russian athlete, has been officially disqualified from the women's 1500m final at the 2012 London Olympics due to anti-doping violations. The Athletics Integrity Unit announced that Tomashova's silver medal, which she earned in that race, has been annulled following a 10-year ban imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in September 2024. This decision marks the fifth disqualification from what has been labeled the 'dirtiest race in history.' The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is expected to reallocate the medals, with Abeba Aregawi of Ethiopia poised to be upgraded to silver as a result of Tomashova's disqualification.
