Nov 25, 2024, 05:47 AM
Taiwan's Defense Ministry has reported the detection of a Chinese balloon over the sea to Taiwan's north on November 25, 2024, marking the first such incident since April. The balloon, suspected to be a spy balloon, was spotted at an altitude of 33,000 ft, 69 miles north of Keelung port at 6:21 pm GMT on Sunday. This event is viewed by Taipei as part of a pattern of harassment by Beijing. Additionally, Taiwan has tracked 12 Chinese military aircraft and 8 ships in the region, indicating heightened military activity amid rising tensions before the presidential polls. Beijing continues to exert pressure on Taipei to accept its claims of sovereignty.
