Syria Appoints Maysaa Sabrine as First Female Central Bank Governor in 70-Year History

Syria's new administration has appointed Maysaa Sabrine as the governor of the Central Bank of Syria, marking her as the first woman to lead the institution in its over 70-year history. Sabrine, who previously served as the first deputy governor of the Central Bank, replaces Mohammed Issam Hazime, who was appointed by the former regime of Bashar al-Assad. This appointment comes as part of efforts by the new rulers, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, to signal a shift towards more inclusive governance following the ouster of Assad by Islamist rebels.
