Sep 19, 2024, 09:57 PM
Western intelligence chiefs have arrived in Azerbaijan amid recent clashes between Azerbaijani security forces and Islamic State (IS) militants in the Qusar district, near the border with Russia. The confrontations, which occurred on September 14, resulted in the deaths and injuries of at least eight Azerbaijani policemen and soldiers. This marks the first officially claimed IS operations in Azerbaijan, although the group has previously shown photos of its members in the country. The militants reportedly used AK-74 rifles, AKM rifles, Bulgarian Dunarit RGD-5 grenades, and shotguns during the attack. The incident was reported in the latest issue of Al-Naba weekly.
