VisitUS to Permanently Dismantle $320 Million Floating Gaza Pier, Transition Aid to Ashdod
Jul 17, 2024, 06:33 PM
The United States has decided to permanently dismantle the floating Gaza pier, which was constructed to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The project, initiated under President Biden, cost an estimated $320 million and faced numerous challenges, including weather and security problems. The pier, which was installed less than two months ago, was intended to aid Palestinians but has been criticized for its inefficacy and high cost. The Pentagon confirmed that the mission is complete and that aid operations will transition to the Ashdod port in Israel. Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder stated that the pier remains in Ashdod and a new re-anchoring date has not yet been determined.
